Gruve’s ACI Mentored Multi-Site Install for a Leading Bank in the Philippines

Case Study Glance Shape

At a glance

Gruve’s deployment of ACI Multi-Site was a part of an overall project that included network re-architecture, SD-WAN, and Data Center. The first phase of the project was implementing an application centric implementation with ACI. This was for the refresh of an existing ACI fabric for the primary data center and migration for the NX-OS fabric on the disaster recovery site into ACI.

About the client

The client is a leading universal bank for retail, commercial, corporate, and institutional clients in the Philippines .

Challenges

In order to migrate the existing legacy ACI hardware to the new hardware, detailed planning of the Layer2 migration and hardware replacement during cutover was required. Layer2 transport to the DR site was utilizing OTV, and migrating to ACI’s multi-site architecture needed proper designs and considerations of L2 and L3 routing to meet the client’s needs. The final component was securing key applications to mitigate breaches from East/West traffic, as well as offloading upstream firewalls.

Solutions

  • Gather requirements and design decisions on how best to migrate existing ACI fabric.
  • Gather requirements to phase out legacy networks in DR to utilize ACI Multi-Site with NDO.
  • Build baseline architecture to allow for current application-centric design for first phase and for continuation of other applications to ACI’s app-centric design.
  • Simplify design for more operational ease of use.
  • Create a more integrated DR solution utilizing ACI’s NDO policy-based design.
  • Create a more secure embedded solution with ACI’s white list model utilizing contracts/filters.
  • Deploy best practice configurations for operational simplicity and better troubleshooting.
  • Standardize configuration for future endpoints to be attached to ACI.

Results and benefits

Gruve successfully migrated the primary data center and deployed ACI Multi-Site to the DR fabric, enabling a more efficient disaster recovery practice for key applications. Gruve also implemented app-centric for 6 key applications, which provided enhanced security and auditing of those applications.
