Vice President, Engineering

Overview:

Gruve, Inc., is seeking a dynamic and experienced Vice President of Engineering to lead our engineering Team and drive innovation in our technology solutions.  As a key member of the leadership team, the GVP of Engineering will play a critical role in shaping the company’s technical vision, strategy and execution.

In this key role, you’ll help establish technical standards and drive the overall technical architecture and engineering practices. Working across all aspects of software development, you’ll focus on solving the most challenging problems and building high-quality, architecturally-sound systems aligned with our business needs.

Roles/Responsibilities

  • Help drive technical standards and architecture
  • Lead and contribute to a range of software development while focusing the team to solve the most challenging problems
  • Build high-quality software, utilizing modern cloud and edge approaches
  • Manage, hire and develop a team of high-performing software engineers
  • Lead cross-functional efforts from the early stages through release
  • Influence organizational roadmap priorities, system owners, and technical direction
  • Represent difficult trade-off decisions and solutions to stakeholders to help them understand options
  • Guide the technical direction and decisions to deliver a solution that meets high standards for customer satisfaction, efficiency, stability, extensibility, simplicity, and operational excellence
  • Co-developing with CTO company’s technology strategy

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or equivalent.  Masters in computer science or a related field preferred.
  • 15 years of experience working in software engineering, including the design and development of highly scalable web/infrastructure services
  • 10 years of experience as a people manager in a software development organization, responsible for hiring and developing a team
  • 10 years of experience planning, designing, developing, and delivering commercial software
  • Experience in partnering and effectively communicating with product and program management teams
  • Knowledge of technology and modern development practices including Object Oriented principles (C++, Java or similar language), Service Oriented Architecture, databases
  • Knowledge of data engineering or machine learning  
  • Strongly prefer previous experience in building IaaS or PaaS services. Familiarity with ML frameworks and MLOps  
  • Deep hands-on technical expertise
  • Project Management experience with agile development methodology
  • Ability to take raw product requirements and create software architectures and designs to bring them to life
  • Ability to work successfully with teams across the organization, including Engineering, Program Management, Quality Assurance, and Senior Leadership
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills; ability to use data and metrics to back up assumptions and opinions
  • Proven track record of successfully leading and scaling engineering teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Strong business acumen and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to translate technical vision into actionable plans and results
  • Excellent communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills

Additional Requirement:

  • Ability to travel occasionally, as needed
